Pune has reported six fresh suspected cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), an immunological nerve disorder, on Friday, PTI reported. The total number of cases in the region now stands at 73.
"The total number of GBS cases increased to 73, comprising 47 and 26 women. Of these, 14 are on ventilator support," news agency PTI quoted an official from the state health department as saying.
State Health Department Monitoring SituationThe State Health Department, on Tuesday, set up a Rapid Response Team (RRT) to investigate the sudden rise in this infection after 24 suspected cases were found initially, said official, as cited PTI.
“We are extremely disappointed that our dream of playing in the Olympic Games Final has not been realized. The team gave their absolute best, and I am proud of how we played. At no point did we give up; we fought valiantly until the last second,” said captain Harmanpreet Singh had said after the defeat.
The RRT and PMCs health department continued surveillance in the affected areas of the Sinhgad Road area.

Affected individuals may also struggle with swallowing, speaking, or chewing and experience sensations like pricking or pins and needles in their hands and feet.
The syndrome can also cause severe pain, especially at night; coordination problems; unsteadiness; abnormal heart rate or blood pressure; and issues with digestion and bladder control.
